Owners of MGA 1500s fitted with front drum brakes can now carry out an authentic MGA 1600 disc brake conversion using parts faithfully reproduced to the original 1600 design. A comprehensive original specification conversion kit comprises; MGA 1600 brake calipers, pads, pins & clips, discs, brake hoses, banjo bolts & washers, brake hose locking plates, caliper adaptors, 1600 wire wheel hubs, front wheel bearing kits and mounting hardware. Optional 1600 master cylinder extension for increased brake fluid capacity available separately. New pads and discs should be bedded in over several hundred miles, with the braking force being progressively increased to maximise the efficiency of your upgrade.
Please Note: For MGA1500 before chassis 28539 the vehicle's brake pipe fitting will be Male BSF. The fitting should be removed and replaced with a Female 3/8"" UNF24 fitting (part number TN606031) to achieve compatibility with the MGA1600 Brake Hose (BHA4139). Note, the end of the Brake Pipe must be flared with a flaring tool to provide seal. The supplied 3/8"" to 3/8"" UNF24 Female to Female Brass Adaptor is compatible for use on MGA1500s from chassis no. 28540 onwards, which they were terminated with a 3/8"" UNF24 male Brake Pipe fitting. The Female to Female Adaptor should be placed above the Cross Member locating Bracket on the Brake Pipe side. The Cross Member Brake Pipe fixing point should be modified to create a locking tab function to ensure the MGA 1600 Hose does not unwind during use. The MGA 1600 Hose may be routed downward from the Bracket (as per the 1500 set up).
