Owners of MGFs and TFs with 16" alloy wheels may be aware of the safety issues that surround correct tyre selection to ensure safe, predictable handling; with the potential for handling to be adversely impacted by the wrong tyre selection. During development of the MG Motor built MGTF model, much testing was undertaken with two tyres approved for use (Toyo Proxes T1R and the Falken ZE914 in the original 16" sizes), these same tyres being equally suitable for the earlier MG Rover built MGF & MGTF models. An alternative is the Nankang AS-2+, with MGF & MGTF on road testing being undertaken by the original MG Rover suspension engineers and has been assessed to be a quality tyre with good lateral stability at high speeds whilst offering a tangible improvement in comfort and reduced road noise when compared to the earlier design.
