The chrome-rimmed glass lens, lens O-ring, securing screw, the distinctive 'King of the Road' red medallion, three bulbholder variants (single contact, dual contact in-line bayonet, and dual contact offset bayonet) and a rubber lamp-to-wing gasket are all catalogued individually.
Side Lamp Bulbs
Three bulb specifications cover the side lamp range: a 5 watt single-filament bulb (BA15s base) for the original single-filament assembly, and two 21/5 watt dual-filament options for the dual-filament assembly, an in-line bayonet bulb and an offset bayonet bulb (the latter being the bulb specified for the catalogued 57H5444 dual-filament side lamp). Owners replacing bulbs should match the bulb base type to the bulbholder fitted to their car.
Lucas SFT462 Fog Lamp, TD Application
The Lucas SFT462 fog lamp is a small chrome-bodied auxiliary lamp suited to the TD's free-standing headlamp arrangement, mounting via a wire clip and screw to the headlamp bowl rim, a neat installation that integrates the fog lamp visually with the existing headlamp. The complete assembly comprises the chrome rim, light unit, three wire light-unit-to-rim clips, the rim-to-bowl clip and screw (the rim-to-bowl clip being a TD option), a bulb shield, the BPF P36S 48-watt fog lamp bulb, and the 'King of the Road' medallion. All components are catalogued individually for owners servicing or restoring the lamp.
Lucas SLR576 Driving Lamp and SFT576 Fog Lamp, TF Applications
The TF accepts the larger Lucas SLR576 long-range driving lamp and SFT576 fog lamp, both catalogued in authentic Lucas-type and replica versions. The SLR576 driving lamp provides long-range illumination for night driving on unlit roads; the SFT576 fog lamp provides the wide, low-mounted beam that cuts through poor visibility without reflecting back from fog or rain. Both lamps share the same BPF P36S 48-watt vertical-filament bulb, and a common lens-retaining screw is catalogued for both. Lucas lamp covers in two motifs, a 'Q' design and a Lion design, complete the period appearance for owners building a concours-correct installation. The lamps are normally mounted on a badge bar between the bumper overriders or directly to the bumper.
Direction Indicators
A note on direction indicators: flashing direction indicators were fitted as standard only to North American specification TDs from chassis TD/22315 (November 1952) onwards, these used a self-cancelling switch mounted under the dashboard and a separate warning lamp on the instrument panel. Home market and most other export TDs were not fitted with factory flashing indicators. Owners retrofitting indicators to a non-NA-specification TD should consult the Switches and Wiring Looms sections for the appropriate switch and loom modifications.
Ordering Considerations
The side lamp assembly may be specified as either single-filament (the original early specification) or dual-filament (the later replacement). Bulbholder type must match the bulb specification, confirm which assembly is fitted before ordering bulbs. The SFT462 fog lamp is the TD-specific application; the SLR576 driving lamp and SFT576 fog lamp are TF applications and may be specified as authentic Lucas units or as replicas. Lucas lamp covers ('Q' and Lion motifs) are common across the SLR576 and SFT576 lamps.
