Every TD and TF left the factory with a 12-volt positive earth Lucas electrical system, and switch and horn components should be selected with this in mind. Throughout the range the dashboard controls were black knobs with white lettering set in chrome-plated bezels, with no printed indication of each knob's function, a characteristic of the era. Many of the switch differences between cars are tied to specific chassis numbers, so accurate identification matters.
TD Switchgear and Production Changes
The TD dashboard saw several changes during its four-year run. The panel light switch began as a simple on/off type but changed to a rheostat switch from chassis numbers TD/10779 (RHD) and TD/10751 (LHD), with the rheostat knob itself changing from a push-on to a screw-on type at the same point. The most significant control change came at chassis number TD/18883, when the combined horn push and dip switch gave way to a separate horn push, the dipping function moving to a foot-operated dip switch mounted to the right with its own bracket. The ignition switch with integral lock and barrel (supplied with two keys), the indicator switch with its black or white knob, and the accessory switch are all catalogued for the TD.
TF Switchgear
The TF used a restyled control layout with five horizontal black knobs lettered in white and set in chrome bezels. Catalogued items include the ignition switch (available with or without lock), the barrel lock with two keys, the ignition switch bezel, and the combined headlamp/panel-lamp/accessory switch with its individually lettered 'L', 'P' and 'A' knobs (a full knob set covering 'L', 'P', 'A', 'C' and 'S' is also available). The TF indicator switch, horn push, foot-operated dip switch with bracket, and the dual windscreen-wiper control knobs complete the dashboard switchgear. A separate starter switch, switch-to-cable coupling and rubber terminal cover serve the starting circuit.
Warning Lamps
The TF warning lamp body accepts three lenses, and the correct lens must be selected: red for ignition, green for the indicators, and, importantly, blue for the low-fuel warning. The TF has no fuel gauge; the blue lamp is the sole low-fuel indication. Bulb holders and bulbs are catalogued to suit. Brake-light and reversing-light switches are also listed where those circuits are fitted.
Horns
High-note and low-note horns are available, listed as later TF types and used as replacements on earlier cars (supplied without their domed covers). Flexible horn mountings and right- and left-hand bulkhead brackets with fixings are catalogued.
For owners wanting more presence, twin Monza and triple Targa air horns are offered as a period-style upgrade.
Ordering Considerations
Identify the model and, for the TD, the chassis number, as the panel switch and dip switch arrangements changed mid-production. Confirm positive or negative earth where it affects the choice, and specify RHD or LHD, since some bracket and control positions are handed.
