MG ZR ZS ZT & Modern Service Parts

Service Parts

Service parts are the highest-volume section of the catalogue because they are the items every car needs at every interval. The MG ZR, ZS and ZT cover six engine families and each takes its own oil filter, air filter, cam belt and ancillary belt set, so identifying the correct engine variant before ordering is essential. The K-series 1.4 and 1.6 in the ZR 105 and ZS 110 take the same air filter (PHE000120 for ZR, PHE100330 for ZS 1.4/1.6/1.8) but differ in spark plug and cam belt; the 1.8 K-series in the ZR 120, ZR 160 VVC, ZS 120 and ZT 120 takes its own cam belt set with the ZR VVC requiring a separate rear belt (LHN100400) for the variable valve control mechanism. The KV6 in the ZS 180 and ZT 160/180/190 takes its own oil filter (LPW100160), air filter (PHE105590 for ZS 2.5 V6, PHE100460 for ZT) and a complex three-belt cam set including the front timing belt (LHN100410) and a rear link belt (LHN100420). The L-series and BMW M47R diesels each take dedicated filters and belts, and the ZT 260 V8 takes Ford-pattern filters (LPW000070 oil, PHE000100 air) and a unique alternator belt (PQS000280). Filters and Belts by Engine Oil filter intervals on the K-series and KV6 are typically every 12,500 miles or 12 months at factory specification, with many enthusiast owners shortening that to 7,500 miles or 6 months for cars used predominantly on short journeys. L-series and M47R diesel intervals are slightly longer where service-grade oil is used. The Ford 4.6 V8 in the ZT 260 takes the FL400-type Ford oil filter familiar from the Mustang GT donor. Air filters across the range are conventional pleated paper elements; the ZT pollen filter (JKR100183) under the bulkhead also benefits from regular replacement to maintain heater and aircon airflow. Alternator and ancillary belts are catalogued by car and air-conditioning fitment, the same engine takes a different belt with or without aircon (compare PQS100840 without aircon and PQS101180 with aircon for MGF/TF/ZS/T applications). The PAS (power-assisted steering) belt for the ZT (PQS101450) is a separate item from the alternator belt. Cross-references with the MGF and MGTF are common: the fuel filter (WJN101190) and 1.8 K-series spark plug (NLP100290 G096) are shared, and the Classic Mini MPi shares the K-series oil filter pattern (LPW100180 / LPW100181). Cam Belt Service on K-Series and KV6 Cam belt replacement is the most consequential service item in this section. The 1.8 K-series in non-VVC form takes a single front belt; the K-series VVC adds a short rear belt (LHN100400) driving the VVC control unit. The KV6 is far more complex, it uses a serpentine front timing belt driving the inlet camshafts and water pump (LHN100410), plus two short rear link belts driving the exhaust camshafts (LHN100420 catalogued in this section). Floating cam pulleys at the rear require special setting tools to establish cam timing on reassembly. The cam belt service interval is 60,000 miles or five years on later K-series engines and the cam belt is typically replaced as part of a kit alongside the water pump, tensioner and idler pulleys to avoid revisiting the job. The MGF/TF and ZR VVC share a common rear belt pattern (LHN100560 auto-tensioner version), reflecting the shared K-series VVC underpinnings. The ZS 2.0 diesel cam belt (LHN100760) is L-series-specific and not interchangeable with the K-series belts. Coolant, Spark Plugs and Other Routine Items Forlife radiator fluid in 5-litre packs (FLC5) is the long-life coolant offered by MGOC Spares for the K-series and KV6 cooling systems, with corrosion inhibition, anti-foaming and a built-in pH indicator that warns of head gasket failure; the dedicated MG Rover OAT longlife antifreeze (XP5LL) is also catalogued in 5-litre packs for owners following the factory specification. Different coolant types should not be mixed without flushing the system. A complete coolant flush and refill is recommended every 4 to 5 years on cars where the original coolant condition is unknown. Spark plug service intervals are typically every 30,000 miles for the K-series with copper-core plugs and every 60,000 miles for platinum-core upgrades. Sump plugs (LSF100040) are catalogued separately because the original plug washer should be renewed at every oil change; over-tightening a steel sump plug into the alloy K-series sump can strip the thread, so torque to specification (typically 25 Nm) and use a fresh copper or aluminium washer. Identifying the car, engine and aircon fitment before ordering avoids the common error of ordering a non-aircon belt for an aircon car or vice versa.
