This section covers MGA front valance panels, the pressed panel that sits below the grille at the front of the car, between the bumper and the chassis. The valance carries the four bumper mounting points that extend from the chassis through the panel, supporting the front bumper springs and brackets. Its position at the front of the car exposes it to stone damage, road spray and corrosion, making it one of the more commonly replaced panels during restoration.
Steel reproduction valance
The reproduction steel valance is the factory-specification pressing, supplied as a direct replacement. This is the correct choice for standard restoration work where factory-original specification is the priority.
Fibreglass (GRP) valance
A fibreglass version is offered as a lightweight, non-corroding alternative to the steel original. Fibreglass will not rust and is substantially lighter than steel, but is not period-original and requires different attachment techniques. Most commonly specified for lightweight road-car use or competition preparation.
Competition valance, two specifications
Two grades of competition-specification valance are offered for cars being prepared for historic motorsport or period-racing appearance. A standard-grade competition valance is stocked, and a premium special-order competition valance is also available, built to higher specification for serious historic motorsport applications.
Ordering considerations
For standard road-car restoration, the reproduction steel valance is the factory-correct choice. For lightweight or rust-resistant applications, the fibreglass valance is the alternative. For historic motorsport or period-racing visual restoration, the competition valances offer a period-correct alternative. The premium special-order competition item has extended lead time and should be specified well in advance.
