Fuel line kits provide a complete set of copper pipework, braided hoses, and clips for renewing the entire fuel delivery system from tank to carburettors in a single purchase. They are the most efficient way to address fuel line deterioration across the car, and are particularly worthwhile during a restoration or where the original steel pipework has corroded beyond reliable use. The kits are tailored to the three main fuel system configurations used across MGB production, which correspond with the carburettor type fitted.
Cars with HS4 carburettors from 1962 to 1972 used one arrangement, cars with HIF4 carburettors from 1972 to September 1976 used a revised layout incorporating an in-line fuel filter and different hose routing, and cars from September 1976 onwards used a further revised configuration reflecting the redesigned fuel tank and connection changes introduced at that point.
Kit Contents
Each kit contains malleable copper piping that can be shaped neatly by hand, giving a professional appearance and eliminating the corrosion issues that affect the original steel pipes over time. Brass unions are ready-fitted and each pipe is labelled for easy identification during installation. A special nut driver for the clips is included. The kits cover the main runs from the tank through to the engine bay, but owners should also check the condition of the engine bay hoses, fuel filter, and carburettor overflow pipes, as these are covered separately in the Fuel Lines, Engine Bay section.
When carrying out a full fuel system renewal, it is good practice to replace the fuel filter, any perished rubber or braided hoses, and the filler neck seal at the same time. For owners who only need to replace a specific section of pipework rather than the complete system, individual copper pipes, rubber hose by the metre, steel pipe by the metre, and all associated clips and unions are available separately in the Fuel Lines, Rear & Main and Fuel Lines, Engine Bay sections.
