MGC Clutch Master Cylinder

Clutch, Gearbox & Axle > Clutch Hydraulics > Clutch Master Cylinder

The clutch master cylinder is mounted in the pedal box, secured by one screw and one stud with plain washer, spring washers, and nuts, the same mounting arrangement as the brake master cylinder alongside it. The filler cap on top of the cylinder allows the hydraulic fluid reservoir to be checked and topped up. A push rod connects the clutch pedal to the master cylinder piston via a clevis pin with a plain washer and split pin. A repair kit containing all internal seals allows the master cylinder to be overhauled without replacing the complete unit, common symptoms of a failing master cylinder include a spongy pedal, clutch slip (as the hydraulic system cannot fully disengage the clutch), or fluid leakage at the push rod seal. The clutch hydraulic system uses the same DOT 4 brake fluid as the braking system.
