The MGC clutch hydraulic system uses a conventional master cylinder and slave cylinder arrangement with a rigid pipe and flexible hose connecting the two. The clutch master cylinder is mounted in the pedal box alongside the brake master cylinder (on manual gearbox cars only, automatic cars have no clutch pedal or hydraulics). A push rod connects the clutch pedal to the master cylinder piston. The clutch pipe, which differs between right-hand drive and left-hand drive cars, runs from the master cylinder through the engine bay to a bracket-mounted flexible hose that connects to the slave cylinder on the side of the gearbox bell housing.
A repair kit is available for both master and slave cylinders, allowing complete overhaul without replacing the cylinder bodies. The slave cylinder bleed nipple allows air to be purged from the hydraulic system after any work that opens a connection. The slave cylinder push rod and clevis pin transmit the hydraulic force to the clutch release arm.
