The standard OE-specification exhaust system is available in mild steel, comprising a front pipe assembly and a separate rear pipe and twin silencer assembly. Each section is also available in stainless steel as a direct replacement. The mild steel system is the more economical option for a straightforward replacement, while the stainless alternatives provide significantly longer service life, a mild steel exhaust system on an MGC that is regularly driven in British winter conditions can deteriorate within three to five years, whereas a stainless system will last the lifetime of the car.
Front Pipe Assembly
The front pipe assembly connects the exhaust manifold flanges to the rear section. It is secured to the manifold by six studs with spring washers and nuts, and to the rear section by a clamp. The front pipe carries the exhaust gases from the manifold, through the front-to-rear connecting section, to the silencers. Available in mild steel or stainless steel.
Rear Pipe and Silencers
The rear pipe and twin silencer assembly completes the exhaust system, running from the front pipe connection to the tail pipe exit at the rear of the car. The twin silencer design provides effective noise attenuation for the six-cylinder engine's exhaust note, the C-series produces a distinctive, characterful exhaust note that is quite different from the MGB's four-cylinder sound. Available in mild steel or stainless steel.
