Decal kits contain all the stripe decals, warning labels, and identification plates appropriate to a specific production period. Four kits cover the Midget range: 1967 to 1969, 1970 to 1971, 1972 to 1974, and 1975 to 1980. Each kit is produced from period-correct artwork to match the original factory-applied decals as closely as possible.
Decal Content by Period
The decal content varies by period. Earlier kits typically include the body side stripe decals, engine bay warning labels (cooling system caution, fan belt routing, and ignition timing information), and any regulatory labels required for the car’s market.
Later kits include the additional labels required by evolving legislation, including emissions information, fluid type labels, and jack positioning decals.
Application Instructions
When applying new decals during a restoration, the body surface must be completely clean, dry, and free from wax or polish. A small amount of soapy water sprayed onto the surface allows the decal to be positioned accurately before being squeegeed flat, this wet application method provides a few minutes of repositioning time before the adhesive takes hold. A heat gun set to a low temperature helps the decal conform to curved surfaces. The old decal position can often be identified by a slight difference in paint oxidation beneath where the original decal sat.
