Three seat designs were used across Midget production, and each requires its own specific covers, foams, and hardware. The non-reclining seat with H-pattern piped backs was fitted for 1967 to 1968. The unique horizontally pleated reclining seat was fitted for 1969 only, this is the rarest of the three types and should be identified carefully before ordering, as covers from the 1970-onward seat will not fit. The heat-welded pattern reclining seat was fitted from 1970 to 1979 and is the most commonly encountered type.
Seat Covers and Headrests
Seat cover sets are available for all three seat types in the full range of interior colours. Head restraints were introduced during the 1970 production run. Two headrest profiles were used: the D-section profile (1970 to late 1977) and the pear-shaped profile (late 1977 onward).
Replacement headrests are available in both leather and vinyl in both profiles. When ordering seat covers, the correct seat type must be specified, the three designs are not interchangeable and fitting the wrong cover will result in a poor fit with loose or overstretched material in the wrong places.
Seat Components and Fixings
Foam cushion sets (seat base and back) renew the padding that compresses and hardens over years of use, new covers fitted over old collapsed foam will not restore the seat to its original comfort or appearance. The seat diaphragm, the sprung webbing platform beneath the seat cushion foam, is a critical component that determines how the seat feels. A sagging or broken diaphragm will make even new foam feel unsupportive. Back boards, clips, and wooden seat supports are available individually.
Seat runners differ between the early (to GAN5-105500) and later (GAN5-105501 onward and GAN6) production periods. The runners bolt to the floor and carry the seat mounting points, worn runner slides allow the seat to rock under braking and acceleration, and replacement runners restore the firm, locked-in-place feel.
Reconditioned and Upgrade Seats
Reconditioned seats are available on an exchange basis, professionally re-upholstered with refurbished frames, new foams, back boards, and new diaphragms. Club sports reclining seats in leather are available as a premium upgrade, with rouched, perforated, or plain centre styling, modern recliner and tilt mechanisms, twin-post headrests, and an optional heating element. These fit the existing seat runners, making installation straightforward without any modification to the car's floor or mounting points.
