Seat components cover the structural and comfort elements of the Midget seat: foam cushion sets for the base and back, diaphragm assemblies (the sprung webbing platform beneath the cushion), back boards, retaining clips, wooden seat supports, and seat runner sets. Each of these components has a direct impact on how the seat feels and supports the driver.
Seat Covers
The foam cushions compress and harden over years of use, and a seat with original 40-year-old foam will feel noticeably flat and unsupportive compared to one with fresh cushions. Replacing the foam transforms the seat from a tired, bottomed-out platform into a comfortable, properly shaped support. The diaphragm beneath the foam is equally important, a sagging or broken diaphragm will make even new foam feel inadequate, as it cannot maintain the correct seat shape under the driver’s weight.
Seat Runners and Mounting
Seat runner sets differ between early (to GAN5-105500) and later (GAN5-105501 onward and GAN6) production periods. The runners bolt to the floor and carry the seat mounting points. Worn runner slides allow the seat to rock fore-and-aft under braking and acceleration, which is both uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. New runners restore the firm, locked-in-place feel that gives the driver confidence under hard driving.
Back boards, which form the rigid backing of the seat backrest, and wooden seat supports are available individually.
