Complete engines and short engines for classic British cars, covering reconditioned and exchange units across the BMC A-Series, B-Series and C-Series families, alongside Triumph and Rover applications. A reconditioned engine is the right choice for cars where the original engine has reached the end of its economic rebuild life, where compression and oil pressure have fallen out of acceptable range, or where the cost of a piecemeal rebuild approaches the price of a fully reconditioned exchange unit.
Reconditioned and Exchange Units
Reconditioned engines are supplied as fully built, tested units ready to fit. The exchange basis means that the customer's existing engine is returned to the rebuilder, where serviceable components are recovered for future rebuilds and unserviceable components are replaced. This circular system keeps reconditioning economics viable and ensures continued supply of correct engines for British classics whose components are no longer in active production.
Short Engines and Long Engines
Short engines comprise the cylinder block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons and timing assembly, everything required to produce compression, and are supplied for owners who plan to reuse their existing cylinder head. Long engines comprise the short engine plus a fully reconditioned cylinder head and represent a more comprehensive replacement. Both options are stocked across the major British classic engine families.
Specification and Compatibility
Engine specification within each family is application-specific. The BMC B-Series fitted to an MGB differs from the B-Series fitted to other BMC saloons in compression ratio, camshaft profile, oil pump specification and ancillary fitments.
When ordering a reconditioned engine, please supply your engine number, chassis number and details of any non-original specification, the parts team will confirm the correct unit before despatch.
Performance Engines
Stage-tuned and performance-built engines are available for selected applications, fitted with uprated cams, gas-flowed cylinder heads, balanced bottom ends and high-compression pistons. Performance engines are typically built to order against a specification agreed with the customer; please contact the parts team to discuss requirements. The MGOC Spares British Classic Car Parts Engines range encompasses reconditioned exchange engines, short engines, long engines and performance-built engines for the British classics we serve. MGOC Spares is constantly expanding our range for these non-MG British classic marques, and new lines are being added to this section regularly.
