MG TD & TF Clutch, Gearbox & Axle

Clutch, Gearbox & Axle

The TD and TF had a single dry-plate Borg & Beck clutch with a 3 synchromesh 4-speed gearbox, and a short Hardy-Spicer prop shaft. The flywheel, clutch housing and gearbox were all painted the same, engine red. The gearbox was very similar to that found on the Y-type but the TF's overall ratios were increased to 4.55:1 for the rear axle. From XPAG/TD2, the clutch diameter was increased from 7 ¼” to 8”. The clutch was initially operated by a pedal with a cable but in November 1952, the cable was changed for a rod and a stop bolt was added to the pedal bracket to limit clutch pedal travel.
