Weather equipment upgrades in this section cover products that protect the Midget during periods of storage and inactivity, the weeks or months between outings when the car is garaged or covered and the British climate does its worst to any car left standing.
Dehumidifiers
A dehumidifier placed inside the car during storage prevents the build-up of moisture that causes mildew on the hood, tonneau, and interior trim, corrosion on bare metal surfaces, and the musty smell that is immediately noticeable when a classic car has been stored in a damp garage. Even a well-sealed garage will accumulate moisture through temperature cycling, warm days followed by cold nights cause condensation on every metal surface inside and outside the car. A rechargeable dehumidifier unit absorbs moisture from the cabin air and can be dried out and reused indefinitely.
Tyre Savers
Tyre savers prevent flat spots from developing on the tyres during extended storage. A car left standing on its tyres for weeks or months will develop flat spots where the tyre contacts the ground, the weight of the car compresses the rubber into a permanent deformation that causes a rhythmic vibration when the car is first driven. On modern radial tyres the flat spots will usually work themselves out after a few miles of driving, but on older or harder-compound tyres the deformation can be permanent. Tyre savers distribute the car's weight more evenly across the tyre contact area, preventing the localised compression that causes the flat spot.
