MGB Door Panels & Trim Kits

Interior > Door Panels & Trim Kits

The MGB door panel specification changed at numerous points across the production run, with the trim panel sets covering nine distinct configurations. The earliest Roadster pull-handle door cars from 1962 to 1964 used a stitched and sewn panel construction with two horizontal flutes and contrast-colour piping below the lower flute. The 1965 to 1967 push-button door cars used a revised panel, and the 1968 to 1969 MkII introduced safety-type recessed door handles alongside two lines of contrast piping on both Roadster and GT. For the 1969 models, piping was deleted and the panel edges were simply turned under and sewn. From 1970, the panels changed to a welded construction held by plastic trim clips rather than screws, a detail that affects which fixings are correct. The 1972 interior revision introduced chrome trim strips and a fixed colour-matched door pull. The final specification from September 1976 was a further distinct design. Original-Style Trim Panel Sets Original-style trim panel sets are available for each of these nine periods in the correct colour combinations. Early sets from 1962 to 1969 are available with the period-correct contrast piping, for example, black with blue piping, black with red piping, or red with black piping, matching the original factory colour schemes. From 1970 onwards, panels are available in the standard production colours including black, autumn leaf, navy, ochre, and beige. Club & Classic Panel Sets Club and Classic panel sets offer an upgrade option for 1970-onwards cars, with carpeted lower sections tailored around the door seal, window winder handle or electric window provision, and a wide choice of colours with contrasting piping. Classic panel sets feature a 1960s MG design specially created for later MGBs. Both are available in vinyl or leather for Roadster and GT. Trim Kits & Liners A trim kit consists of footwell liners, door liners, and wheel arch liners, with Roadster cockpit liners and GT rear tailgate liners available separately. Carpet map pockets fit to the lower door panel and provide in-door storage. The GT tailgate panel finishes the inner face of the tailgate, with leather tailgate panels available as a premium alternative. Roadster and GT panels differ in profile and are not interchangeable. Within each body style, the pre-1970 sewn construction and post-1970 welded construction are fundamentally different in how they attach to the door.
