The 1275cc reconditioned engine is a fully rebuilt BMC A-Series unit restored to factory power output and tolerances. The rebuild encompasses every wear surface in the engine: the block is rebored to the next available oversize with new matched pistons and rings, the crankshaft is reground to the next undersize on both main and big end journals with new shell bearings fitted throughout, and new camshaft bearings are pressed into the block. Thrust washers are selected to bring crankshaft end float within specification.
Cylinder Head Overview
The cylinder head is fully reconditioned with recut valve seats, new valve guides, refaced or new valves, new inlet valve stem seals, and new valve springs where required. The head face is checked for flatness and skimmed if necessary. The rocker shaft assembly is inspected and worn components renewed. All gaskets and seals throughout the engine are replaced with new items.
Ordering Notes
When ordering, the engine serial number prefix must be provided, this identifies which of the five home-market 1275cc variants is required (12CC, 12CE, 12V586F, 12V588F, or 12V778F) and determines the oil filter head type, breather system connections, block flange thickness, and distributor drive arrangement. The engine is supplied as a long engine (assembled block, head, sump, and timing cover) without ancillaries such as carburettors, manifolds, starter motor, or dynamo/alternator, which are transferred from the customer’s outgoing unit to match the car’s specific configuration.
