A service kit gathers the consumable items needed for a routine 12,000-mile service, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter where applicable, spark plugs, distributor points, condenser, rotor arm, and the relevant gasket sets, into a single boxed pack tailored to a specific model. MGOC Spares has been the trusted source for classic MG service items since 1979, and stocked kits ship same-day on weekday orders placed before the daily cut-off.
For owners who want to handle their own servicing, ordering a kit is faster, more accurate and almost always less expensive than ordering each item line by line. For owners using a workshop, handing the workshop a complete kit removes the risk of mismatched parts being substituted from a generic stock. The kits are organised by model and by engine variant, the same model often has more than one kit because the service items differ between, for example, points-ignition and electronic-ignition cars.
MGB & GT
The MGB service kit covers the 1.8-litre four-cylinder B-Series engine across the full production run from chrome-bumper points-ignition cars through to the late rubber-bumper electronic-ignition cars. Filters, plugs, points and rotor arm specifications differ between the early Lucas 25D distributor cars and the later Lucas 45D, so the distributor type should be confirmed at ordering. The kit also covers the MGB GT alongside the Roadster, both use the same engine, the same ancillaries and the same service items.
MGC & GT
The MGC service kit covers the 2.9-litre six-cylinder C-Series engine fitted to the MGC and MGC GT. The C-Series uses different oil and air filters from the four-cylinder B-Series, a different points-and-condenser specification, and different spark plugs, the kit is specific to the car and is not interchangeable with the MGB pack. With the MGC's torsion-bar front suspension and heavier engine mass, regular servicing is particularly important to keep the car running cleanly, and the kit reflects the specific service requirements of the six-cylinder car.
MGB GTV8
The MGB GTV8 service kit covers the Rover-sourced 3.5-litre V8 fitted to the factory V8 GT, including the specific oil filter, air filters (both rocker-cover breather and main), Lucas distributor service items, and spark plugs. The V8 ignition specification, points, condenser and rotor arm, is unique to the V8 distributor and is not shared with the four-cylinder MGB. For factory V8 cars and for V8-converted MGBs running the same Rover-derived powerplant, the kit is the simplest way to order a routine service in one go.
Midget, MGA & MGF/TF
The Midget service kit covers the A-Series 1275cc cars and the Triumph 1500cc cars as separate sub-variants, the engine is fundamentally different between the two, and so is every service item. The MGA kit covers the 1500, 1600 and 1600 Mk II pushrod cars, with the Twin Cam handled separately given its very different engine architecture and spark plug specification. The MGF and TF kits cover the K-Series engines fitted to the modern mid-engined cars, these use modern oil and air filter specifications, modern long-life spark plugs and modern hydraulic-lifter ignition systems, so the F/TF kit is closer to a modern service pack than to a classic one. In every case, ordering the model-specific kit guarantees that what arrives at the door matches the car at the kerb.
