MGA Flyscreens & Visors

Flyscreens & Visors

This section covers wind wings (small aerofoil deflectors) and sun visors for the MGA, accessories that improve the open-top driving experience on roadster cars and reduce sun glare for the driver in bright conditions. Wind wings, pair, MGA roadster The MGA wind wings are supplied as a matched pair, fitting at the rear corners of the windscreen frame on roadster cars. Wind wings are small aerofoil-shaped deflectors that direct airflow away from the driver and passenger when driving with the hood down, significantly reducing the buffeting and turbulence that occurs in an open cockpit at speed. Without wind wings, the airflow over the open MGA roadster cockpit creates a low-pressure zone behind the windscreen that pulls air rearward over the occupants, causing constant buffeting around the head and shoulders that becomes tiring on long drives. Wind wings break up this airflow pattern, redirecting the air around rather than across the cockpit, with several practical effects: less buffeting (significantly less wind noise and air movement around the driver's and passenger's heads), reduced cabin draughts (the wing deflects cold air away from the upper body, making the open car more comfortable in cooler weather), and reduced hair disturbance (for owners with longer hair, wind wings make a noticeable difference to in-car comfort at higher speeds). Wind wings fit only to roadsters, coupé cars have fixed roofs and need no aerodynamic deflectors of this type. Sun visor tint strip, MGA / T-Type The sunvisor tint strip is a tinted strip fitted to the top of the windscreen, providing sun-glare reduction for the driver. It performs the same function as a modern car's tinted top band on the windscreen, reducing direct sunlight glare from the upper part of the field of view without interfering with the driver's central vision. The item is shared between the MGA and earlier T-Type cars, reflecting the period-correct accessory shared across the BMC sporting lineage. Many MGAs have had this fitted as a period accessory over the years, particularly for cars used regularly in summer or in climates with frequent low sun angles. Ordering considerations For roadster owners wanting to improve the open-top driving experience, the wind wings pair is a worthwhile fitment, especially for cars used regularly on motorways or for longer cross-country touring with the hood down. The wings are visually subtle and do not significantly alter the car's external appearance. For either roadster or coupé, the sunvisor tint strip is a discreet glare-reduction accessory that fits to the top of the windscreen. It is non-original to the factory specification on most cars but is a recognised period accessory that does not detract from a well-restored MGA's overall appearance.
