The clutch slave cylinder support bracket is one of the best-known and most worthwhile upgrades for the MGF and MG TF. On the standard installation the clutch slave cylinder can allow a degree of flex at its mounting under pedal pressure, and as the car ages this flex absorbs some of the movement that should be operating the clutch, resulting in a vague pedal, incomplete clutch release, and difficulty selecting gears, particularly when the transmission is hot.
What the Bracket Does
The support bracket reinforces the slave cylinder mounting so that all of the hydraulic movement is transferred to the clutch release mechanism rather than being lost in flex. The result is a firmer, more consistent clutch pedal, a cleaner bite point, and noticeably crisper gear selection. It is a straightforward bolt-on improvement that addresses a common and frustrating fault.
When to Fit
The bracket is well worth fitting if the clutch feels vague, the car is reluctant to engage gear when warm, or whenever the clutch hydraulics are being serviced and access is already available. It is commonly fitted alongside renewal of the slave cylinder and a fresh fluid bleed.
