MGF & TF Wheel Nuts, Caps, Clamps & Tools

Road Wheels > Wheel Nuts, Caps, Clamps & Tools

The standard MGF and MG TF wheel nut is a single specification used across all factory alloy wheels, twelve nuts per car (three per wheel, plus one locking nut per corner, see below). Two additional wheel nut specifications are catalogued for aftermarket Club wheel applications: one for Club RZX alloy wheels and one for Club RLS alloy wheels. The Club wheel nuts have different thread and seating specifications and are not interchangeable with the standard factory nut. When ordering replacement wheel nuts, confirm the wheel type first, standard factory alloys use the standard nut; aftermarket Club wheels use their own specific nuts. Wheel nuts should be renewed if their seating cones show scuffing or distortion; a worn nut does not provide correct clamping load and can loosen over time. Locking Wheel Nut System The locking wheel nut kit replaces one standard wheel nut at each corner with a locking nut that requires a specific key socket (sometimes called an Allen key, though it is actually a splined or patterned socket unique to the car) to remove. This prevents casual wheel theft. The complete locking nut kit includes four locking nuts plus one key socket. The locking nut cap is a plastic cover fitted over the locking nut to protect its pattern from corrosion and road grime, four are needed per car, and a dedicated cap-removal tool is catalogued to extract the caps cleanly. Caps can be renewed at modest cost if they become damaged or corroded. Replacement Locking Nut Keys, Identifying Your Code If the original key socket has been lost or misplaced, a replacement key can be ordered, but only when the correct key code is identified. Each car's locking nuts are keyed to a specific code, and the replacement key must match. Multiple key codes are catalogued on this page (code examples including No.4/E, No.7/A, No.9/I, No.22/H, No.38/H, No.48/T, No.49/T, No.63/JJ), with each code corresponding to a specific locking nut pattern. To identify the key code on your car: remove one locking nut cap using the cap-removal tool, and inspect the locking nut's head pattern. The code is typically stamped on the original key socket if you have one matching set; for owners without their original key socket, comparison against the physical pattern of the locking nut identifies the correct replacement key. If in doubt, contact MGOC Spares with a photograph of the locking nut head pattern for identification assistance, ordering the wrong key code produces a replacement that will not engage the nut. Wheel Centre Caps, Five Variants by Wheel and Finish Centre caps with MG badge are catalogued in five variants reflecting the different wheel designs across MGF and MG TF production. Each cap is supplied in sets of four (one per wheel): a silver centre cap for standard MGF and MG TF (not Trophy); a silver cap for MGF Trophy with its specific Trophy badging; a charcoal cap for the 11-spoke Lightweight alloy; a charcoal cap for the Multispoke Lightweight alloy; and an Optimum Silver cap for the 11-spoke Shadow Chrome alloy. Identify the wheel design before ordering, the badges and finish are matched to the specific wheel rather than being universally compatible. Valve Caps, Chrome and Anti-Theft with MG Logo Two valve cap options are catalogued. The standard chrome valve cap set provides a quality OEM-look replacement for the typical black plastic dust caps fitted from new. The anti-theft valve cap set features chrome caps bearing the MG logo and an anti-theft securing screw that prevents unauthorised removal, useful protection against the surprisingly common theft of valve cores and deliberate tyre deflation. Both are supplied as sets of four (one per wheel) or six (four road wheels plus a pair of spares). Wheel Brace, Model-Specific The wheel brace (wheel nut wrench) differs between MGF and MG TF, each was supplied with its own tool-kit wrench as original equipment. Both are catalogued for owners replacing a missing, damaged, or worn original wrench. A four-way wheel nut wrench and an extending wheel nut wrench (extending to 530mm for more leverage) are also catalogued as aftermarket alternatives for owners wanting more robust tools than the compact tool-kit wrench. Ordering Checklist For a complete wheel-security refresh: standard wheel nuts (12, one car set), locking wheel nut kit (one kit including four nuts and one key), locking nut caps (four), and the cap-removal tool. For a centre cap replacement: confirm wheel design first, then order the matching specification (four per car). For a lost locking nut key: identify the key code from the physical locking nut pattern, then order the corresponding replacement key.
