MGF & TF Door Locks, Handles & Fixings

Bodywork > Door Locks, Handles & Fixings

The five-piece lock set provides all the lock barrels on the car matched to a single key, comprising the two door locks, the boot lid lock, the ignition and steering lock, and the fuel filler cap lock. Lock sets are catalogued by market (RHD or LHD) and by central locking specification (remote-operated or key-only operated). The key-only variant covers markets where remote central locking was not fitted as standard. Ordering a lock set requires knowing the car's steering hand and central locking specification; the lock sets are keyed to a non-specific pattern (new keys issued with the set), customer-key-matched sets are not available at this level, only individual lock assemblies can be cut to an existing key number. Individual Door Lock Assemblies Individual RH and LH door lock assemblies are catalogued in three variants each: non-specific key number (standard replacement with new keys), customer-key-matched (cut to the car's existing key number when the key number is supplied to MGOC Spares at order time), and a separate key-only operated specification for cars without remote central locking. Customer-key-matched ordering avoids the need to carry multiple keys after a single lock replacement, useful when only one door lock has failed but the rest of the car's locks still function. A lock retaining clip is included with each handle assembly. Exterior Door Handles, Eight Variants Exterior door handles are catalogued across four configurations: primed surround and handle (the standard body-colour finish, to be painted to match the car), and primed surround with chrome handle (a factory finish used on special editions including the Abingdon LE and 75th Anniversary). Each finish is catalogued in handed LH and RH and in RHD and LHD market variants, eight combinations in total. Chrome handles on body-coloured surrounds give a distinctive contrast look that was part of the chrome-accented special editions and is also available as a retrofit styling upgrade. Handles are secured by four screws accessible from the door interior. Door Latches, Four Positions, Plus Pre-AD016435 Compatibility Door latches are catalogued in handed LH and RH in two operation types (remote-operated or key-only operated) and in both RHD and LHD markets, a total of eight variants. Ordering the correct latch requires knowing steering hand, door side, and central locking specification. Important compatibility note for pre-AD016435 MGFs: the original-specification latches fitted to MGFs before this VIN are no longer available. Owners of these cars can fit the later-specification latch (FQJ102262PMA for RHD, FQJ102292PMA for LHD) provided they also order a YPC10069 connector harness and an AFU3791 anti-backout device connector to adapt the later latch to the earlier car's wiring and operation. This three-part solution is the only route for early MGFs and must be specified at order time. Interior Door Release and Escutcheons, Mk1/Mk2 Shape Change The interior door release handle changed specification at VIN XD511058/XD511059 alongside the broader Mk1/Mk2 facelift, pre-XD511058 cars use one handed pair of release handles, post-XD511059 cars and all MG TF use a different handed pair. The escutcheon (the plate that surrounds the release handle) also changed shape at the same breakpoint: rectangular for pre-XD511058 MGF, oval for post-XD511059 MGF and all MG TF. Escutcheon fixing screws changed at a slightly different breakpoint (XD500581/XD500582), so ordering replacement escutcheon screws requires checking the specific VIN on pre-XD511058 cars. Interior release handle assemblies include the button-and-rod interior lock mechanism (handed LH and RH). Striker and MGOC Octagon Trim The door striker mounts to the B-post and catches the latch when the door is closed, catalogued as a single part across production, retained by four screws. An MGOC-branded Octagon trim decorative surround is catalogued as a styling upgrade, replacing the plain interior trim around the door lock with an octagonal MG-logo shape, a subtle way to add MG-themed detailing to the interior.
