The MGF front bumper cover is a single-piece plastic moulding supplied primed for painting to body colour at fitting. The steel front bumper armature behind the cover is the structural impact-absorbing beam and is catalogued separately, worth inspecting after any frontal impact since the armature absorbs crash energy first even when the cover itself looks undamaged. Self-tapping screws, Lokut nuts, bumper-to-body screws with plain washers, and the armature-to-body screws make up the complete front bumper fixing set.
Front Grille
The MGF upper and lower grille panels are catalogued in three finish options with one production breakpoint. Black is the standard fitment throughout production and is included in the bumper assembly, bright was the upgrade finish for earlier Mk1-era MGFs, and chrome was the upgrade finish for later Mk2-era cars. Bright and chrome are different finishes used at different eras, so a Mk1 car cannot use Mk2 chrome grilles and vice versa. The grille-to-bumper screws are catalogued in two versions, plain for black grilles and stainless steel with stainless washers for bright and chrome grilles, the stainless fixings being necessary to match the grille finish.
Stainless Steel Grille Upgrades & Trophy Spoiler
MGOC-branded stainless steel grille kits are catalogued as alternatives to the factory-finish grilles, available in woven mesh and hexagon patterns covering both the air ducts and the front grille, sold as pairs, with a matched set of stainless grilles and body-coloured British Racing Green bezels also available for BRG MGFs. Polished stainless resists corrosion and UV degradation substantially better than the original plastic. The MGF Trophy 160 has a dedicated primed front spoiler assembly not fitted to standard MGFs, part of the Trophy's more aggressive visual specification, secured to the bumper cover by screw rivets with foam infill blocks, and its dedicated design means it cannot be directly retrofitted to a standard MGF without matching modifications to the bumper cover.
Rear Bumper
The MGF rear bumper cover is a primed plastic moulding catalogued separately from the front, secured to the rear subframe structure by two handed mounting brackets with bolts, nuts, self-tapping screws, and side spacers. A dedicated rear bumper-to-body seal prevents water ingress into the rear luggage area and engine bay, a small but worthwhile item when refitting the bumper after any rear-end work. Japan and Australia market cars use different rear number plate fixings than UK-specification cars.
