The sunvisors pivot on mounting clips attached to the headlining above the windscreen. The visor body can become floppy (failing to stay in position) if the friction mechanism wears, or the mounting clip can break from the headlining.
Replacement sunvisors are available to restore the sun protection function. Some models incorporate a vanity mirror in one or both visors.
MGF and TF Sunvisor Differences
The sunvisor assemblies are largely common between the MGF and TF, though the trim colour and material may differ depending on the interior specification. The visor body is moulded with a friction pivot that allows the visor to be held in position when swung down, and a secondary pivot allows the visor to swing sideways to cover the side window area. Some variants include a vanity mirror on the passenger side, concealed behind a sliding cover. The mounting clips are pressed into the headlining and are secured to the windscreen header rail behind the trim, the clips can fracture with age, particularly if the visor is repeatedly forced past its natural range of movement.
Replacement and Availability
Replacement sunvisors are available in the standard Ash Grey finish that covers the majority of MGF and TF production. When fitting a replacement visor, the mounting clip should be checked, if the original clip has cracked or lost its spring tension, it should be replaced at the same time, as a weak clip will allow the visor to drop under its own weight. The visor body, friction pivot, and mounting clip are all available as individual components, so a complete visor assembly need not be replaced if only the clip or pivot has failed.
