MGF & TF Centre Console & T-Bar

Interior > Centre Console & T-Bar

The centre console and T-bar changed specification at MGF VIN XD511058/XD511059, the Mk1-to-Mk2 facelift split that affects multiple items on this page. Ordering the correct specification requires knowing whether the car is pre-XD511058 (Mk1) or post-XD511059 (Mk2, extending through all MG TF). The gear lever gaiter, gaiter retainer, T Bar assembly, and dash trim kits all have separate Mk1 and Mk2 part numbers reflecting different console geometry and trim styles between the two eras. Console Structure and Stowage The console structure comprises the tunnel console lid (hinged, catalogued with its retaining screws), a stowage bin within the console with its finisher panel, front and rear latches (front lid and rear lid catalogued separately), and the striker that retains the console armrest clip. The hinge assembly for the tunnel console lids is catalogued as a single part across production. An anti-slip mat is catalogued for the console stowage area, preventing items from sliding during cornering. Leather T Bar and Lid, Exchange Basis MGOC catalogues leather-trimmed console lid (R820) and T Bar (R826 for Mk1, R825 for Mk2) as exchange items, the customer's old lid and T Bar must be returned to MGOC Spares for the exchange to complete. Leather items are available in a full range of colours to complement interior trim, making them a popular upgrade from the standard plastic components for owners wanting a higher-quality cabin finish. Gear Lever Gaiter and Retainer Leather gear lever gaiters are catalogued with production-split colour ranges. Mk1 MGFs (R813-series) are catalogued in four colours: Black (R813A), Cream (R813C), Green (R813G), and Red (R813M). Mk2 MGFs and all MG TF (R814-series) are catalogued in three colours: Black (R814A), Cream (R814C), and Red (R814M), Grey in either Mk1 or Mk2 is available as a special-order item beyond the standard catalogue range. The gaiter retainer also differs: Mk1 uses a black plastic retainer, Mk2 uses an alloy retainer, not cross-compatible between the two eras. Handbrake Gaiter and Alloy Handle Leather handbrake gaiters (R812-series) are catalogued in five colours: Black (R812A), Cream (R812C), Green (R812G), Red (R812M), and Grey (R812P), common across Mk1 and Mk2 (unlike the gear lever gaiter, the handbrake gaiter didn't change with the facelift). An MGOC-branded alloy handbrake handle is catalogued as an aftermarket upgrade, replacing the standard black plastic handbrake handle with a polished alloy item, a small but effective interior brightwork upgrade that pairs well with the alloy gear lever gaiter retainer on Mk2 cars. Dash Trim Kits, Gauge Housing Colours and Ashtray Options S-series dash trim kits are catalogued in three finishes (burr walnut, carbon fibre effect, alloy) with Mk1 and Mk2 variants, six kits in total. Each kit is adhesive-backed and covers the console switch area, radio surround, gear lever surround, and face-level air vents as a coordinated set. The gauge housing on Mk2 MGF and MG TF is catalogued in nine colour options including Plain Black, Silver, Burr Walnut, Solar Red, Trophy Blue, Trophy Yellow, Anthracite, Technical Grey, and Technical Black, a significant personalisation option. The ashtray is catalogued in two variants: standard black plastic (with a mounting bracket) and chrome (clips directly into place without the bracket, fitted as standard on some later cars and available as a direct replacement upgrade on earlier cars).
