The small rubber grommets, sealing plugs, insulation clips, studs and screws that hold an MGF or MG TF interior together are rarely thought about until the trim has to come out, and then their condition, or absence, becomes the single biggest frustration at reassembly. This section of the catalogue covers those small parts: the unseen fixings and sealing items that keep water, draughts and road noise where they belong, and that hold insulation panels, carpet edges and trim components securely in position.
Hoodwell and Bulkhead Sealing Plugs
The hoodwell is the recessed area behind the seats that houses the folded hood mechanism when the roof is down. It forms a boundary between the passenger compartment and the engine bay beyond, and it uses a series of sealing plugs to close unused service holes in the surrounding pressings. The AYB000360 hoodwell side sealing plug is the most commonly replaced of these, it seals a small aperture on both sides of the hoodwell and is lost during every major interior strip-down. Fresh plugs at reassembly are the only way to keep road noise and water out of the cockpit, and the original plugs rarely survive a second removal intact.
Dash Insulation Clips
The MGF and MG TF use a substantial moulded insulation panel behind the dashboard to reduce noise transfer from the engine bay into the cabin. That panel is secured to the body structure by a pair of dedicated clip halves: the female half (EYC10061) locates into the body, and the male half (EUM10001) fits into the panel itself, the two snapping together at reassembly. Both clip halves are consumable, neither survives a determined removal without damage, and they must be ordered as a set when the dash insulation is being removed for heater matrix work, wiring repair or any behind-dash diagnostic job.
General Body Clips and Carpet Studs
Alongside the dash-specific clips, the section covers general-purpose interior fixings that appear throughout the cabin and load space. The EYC101040 clip is the standard MGF interior panel clip used in numerous positions where flexible sheet trim needs to be retained against the bodyshell. The AJU1136 stud is the threaded stud used at multiple points for securing loadspace carpet and boot floor panels; it works in combination with drive-type fasteners to hold carpet edges flat and prevent creep during loading and unloading. Ordering a small stock of these universal items alongside any bigger interior project is sensible, the cost is trivial compared with the inconvenience of finding one short at reassembly.
Flanged Hex Head Screws
The FS106127 M6 x 12mm flanged hex head zinc screw is the standard fastener used across the interior for securing trim brackets, seat belt mounting brackets, hoodwell lid fixings and numerous other positions where a flanged-head screw is specified. Eleven are used on the hoodwell lid alone, and four secure the rear parcel shelf bracket to the seat belt mounting. Fresh screws at reassembly prevent stripped threads in the body captive nuts, a much bigger job to repair than simply replacing the screws.
Ordering Considerations
When stripping an interior for any major work, the realistic approach is to order a small stock of these items at the planning stage rather than mid-job. Hoodwell sealing plugs, dash insulation clips, general-purpose body clips, carpet studs and flanged hex screws together represent a very small proportion of the total project cost, and having them to hand at reassembly avoids the frustration of stopping work to wait for a single missing fixing. For full interior strip-downs, hood replacement, heater matrix work, carpet renewal or retrim, a comprehensive fixings order at the start is standard practice.
