MGF & TF Seats & Fixings

Interior > Seats & Fixings

The seats on any MGF or MG TF take the hardest use of any single interior component, and after twenty-plus years of service they are typically the first thing that betrays the age of an otherwise tidy cabin. MGOC Spares covers the full range of seat restoration and replacement options: complete retrimmed leather seats supplied on exchange, the VVC half-leather reconditioning service, individual foam sets for refreshing tired padding, seat-and-headrest kits for Mk 2 cars, a seat lowering kit for taller occupants, and all of the small frames, fixings and cover components needed to restore a Mk 1 or Mk 2 seat to a high standard. Mk 1 Leather Seat Styles, MGF to VIN XD511058 Three leather seat styles are offered for early MGF cars to VIN XD511058, all supplied as a matched pair on an exchange basis with headrests and floor runners included. The Classic style (R600) uses traditional narrow-pleated leather facings and suits cars restored to a period-correct look. The Icon style (R601) uses wider pleats and a bolder centre panel for a more contemporary appearance. The Executive style (R602) uses rouched centre panels for a premium feel and is the most luxurious of the three. All three styles are available in a full range of colours, single-tone or two-tone, with the option of contrasting or matching piping. Fitting is a straightforward bolt-in job to the original floor mountings, and old seats must be returned complete with headrests and runners when the replacements are delivered. Mk 2 Leather Seat Style, MGF from XD511059 and MG TF For MGF cars from VIN XD511059 and all MG TF cars, the Deluxe style (R612) is the catalogued exchange option. As with the Mk 1 seats, the Mk 2 seats are supplied as a matched pair on an exchange basis, complete with headrests and floor runners, and are available in a wide range of leather colours and piping combinations. The Mk 2 seat frames and foam profiles differ from the Mk 1 seats and are not interchangeable, so VIN verification is essential before ordering. For owners who want a factory Mk 2 half-leather finish rather than a full leather retrim, the seats can be specified with fabric centre panels, contact MGOC Spares with the interior trim specification for a quote. VVC Half-Leather Reconditioning Service The distinctive MGF VVC half-leather seat, with leather bolsters and fabric centre panels, is catered for by a dedicated seat reconditioning service (R609, not illustrated). This is not a trimmed exchange pair but a reconditioning service for owners whose original VVC seats need refreshing to the correct factory specification. Headrests are included, and as with the full-leather exchange options the old seats complete with headrests and floor runners must be returned for reconditioning. Seat Foam Sets, Kits and Lowering Kit For owners who want to restore their existing seats rather than exchange for retrimmed ones, replacement foam sets are catalogued covering the squab (backrest) and cushion (base) for both Mk 1 and Mk 2 seats. The Mk 1 foam uses separate outer and inner squab foams plus the cushion foam; the Mk 2 foam uses a single-piece squab foam plus a cushion foam. The R617 Mk 2 Seat Foam Set and R615 Mk 2 Seat & Headrest Kit are catalogued for Mk 2 work where the original foam has lost its support but the frame and covers are serviceable. The R611 Seat Lowering Kit is a pair of replacement springs that reduce seat height by effectively softening the rise under load, which provides extra headroom for taller drivers without altering the floor mountings. Frames, Fixings and Covers Individual seat frames are catalogued separately for Mk 1 (HFA103820 RH squab, HFA103830 LH squab, HFB102240/HFB102250 cushion frames) and Mk 2 (HFA105220/HFA105230 squab frames) where a frame is damaged beyond economical repair. Floor runners are included in the cushion frame assemblies. Seat-to-floor fixing screws, squab-to-cushion bolts (a VIN breakpoint applies at MG TF 5D638640), seat mechanism covers, recline handwheels and caps, and headrest escutcheons are all catalogued to complete a seat rebuild. Ordering Considerations Three pieces of information make seat ordering straightforward: the car's VIN (Mk 1 or Mk 2 seat frame), the original interior trim colour (for seats ordered to match existing trim), and the seat style preference (Classic, Icon, Executive or Deluxe for full retrim, or foam set only for a restoration). For owners planning a full cabin refresh, the leather seats are usually ordered alongside matching gear lever and handbrake gaiters, door pods and console trim in the same leather colour, a coordinated order gives the best colour match across all leather surfaces.
