The hood is the defining piece of weather equipment on any MGF or MG TF, and its condition is a strong indicator of how well the car has been looked after. MGOC Spares covers the full hood assembly range: complete Club hoods in black canvas and mohair in a choice of colours, individual rear windows for owners repairing rather than replacing, the glass heated rear window kit used on the final MG TFs and available as a retrofit to earlier cars, complete hood frame assemblies, and the full range of small fixings, catches, strikers, tension cables, retaining strips, header rail components, pivot bolts, screws and rivets, needed to rebuild or repair a hood properly.
Club Hoods, Materials and Colours
The Club hood range covers MGF and MG TF cars to the end of 2005 production and is built to original specifications in either black canvas (V835A for MGF to WD024604, V840A for MGF from WD024605 and MG TF) or mohair in a choice of colours. Mohair options for MGF to WD024604 are Black (V845A), Green (V845G) and Red (V845M); for MGF from WD024605 and MG TF to 5D639630 the options are Black (V850A), Green (V850G), Navy (V850N) and Beige (V850X). Club hoods may also be specified with contrasting-coloured bindings as a detail upgrade, contact MGOC Spares with the preferred combination. Although black was by far the most common factory specification, coloured hoods give a distinctive visual lift to the car, and any colour can be retrofitted to any MGF or MG TF without modification to the hood frame.
Rear Windows, Plastic to Glass HRW
MGF and MG TF cars up to VIN 5D639630 were fitted with zip-out vinyl rear windows, colour-matched to the hood material with bound edges in the same finish. Replacement vinyl windows are catalogued in all the original material and colour combinations (V836 through V851). From VIN 5D639631, the last MG TFs moved to a zip-out glass heated rear window (DSL000030PDA with Black/Mist binding, DSL000030LFM with Charcoal binding) with markedly better rear visibility and practical demisting capability in cold weather. The glass HRW can be retrofitted to an earlier hood, and does so without modification to the hood frame itself, though one of three electrical installation kits (V642 for MGF to XD511058, V643 for MGF from XD511059 and MG TF to 4D620548, V644 for MG TF from 4D620549) is required to power the heater element.
Binding colours for the glass HRW are now rationalised to Black/Mist and Charcoal, replacing the wider range of original hood-matched colours.
Hood Frame Assemblies and Header Rail
Two hood frame assemblies are catalogued: DSE100260PMA covers MGF and MG TF to VIN 5D639630, and DSE000020PMA covers MG TF from 5D639631 (the glass-HRW variant). The hood frame assemblies include the link rods (DJY100010) that operate the frame through its folding motion. The rear bow retaining strip is a service item (DJO100010 to 5D639630, DJO000010 from 5D639631) that holds the hood material to the rear bow, and the hood tension cables (DJQ100080, one each side) maintain the correct hood shape across the roof span. Header rail components include the header rail fabric (DJX100160PMA), front header rail insert (DXI100050), centre bow insert (DXI100020), and rear bow canopy insert (DXI100040).
Hood Catches, Strikers and Seals
The hood-to-windscreen catches are VIN-specific: DXW100160PMA (RH) and DXW100170PMA (LH) fit MGF to WD024604, while DXW100280PMA (RH) and DXW100290PMA (LH) fit MGF from WD024605 and all MG TF cars. The catch strikers (DSS100220PMD RH, DSS100230PMD LH) mount to the windscreen frame, secured by DYP10045 screws. The hood-to-hoodwell catches (DXW100140PMA, five required) are secured by RA610185 rivets. Cantrail and B-post seal assemblies (DSF101340PMA RH, DSF101350PMA LH) were originally supplied as separate cantrail and B-post seals but are now catalogued as combined assemblies.
A dedicated finishing strip kit (DXS100070) tidies the exposed edges of the hood material around the frame.
Hardtop Mounting and Hood Frame Fixings
The hardtop mounting plates (DUN100340 RH, DUN100350 LH) fit to the B-post and provide the pickup points for a factory or accessory hardtop. Four KYP10004 screws secure each mounting plate along with the hood retention point. Hood frame pivot bolts (DJB100260, two required), frame spacers (DSZ100110, five required), stud plates (DYR100250, two required), hood frame screws (DYP101350, four required), elastic hood tape (DUQ100020 RH, DUQ100030 LH), hood retaining plates (DUN100230, six required) and self-adhesive foam tape (MUC3610A, two required) complete the frame-level fixings. Ordering the small parts as a complete kit at the start of any hood rebuild avoids mid-job stops.
Ordering Considerations
The two essential pieces of information are the car's VIN (multiple breakpoints apply across the range for catches, strikers, hood frame and hood retaining strip) and the chosen hood material and colour.
