Q Parts Lowering Kits

Suspension & Steering > Lowering Kits

Ride height matters. A classic sits where its springs and bushes were specified to put it; later regulatory changes raised the front of some cars by an inch or more for headlight compliance, and decades of use have settled spring rates from their original figures. The Q Parts lowering kit range gives owners a deliberate, controlled ride-height reduction with the supporting hardware needed to do the job properly, engineered for classic MG applications. Engineered Ride Height A Q Parts lowering kit is engineered as a system, not a parts list. The components are produced to a calculated specification that supports the lower ride height without excessive compression travel, the geometry implications of the new ride height are factored in, and the kit is offered with the supporting hardware required to install the change properly rather than adapting standard parts to a non-standard duty. Lowering Blocks for Banjo and Tube Axles Where applicable to the application, lowering kits are offered separately for cars with the early banjo axle and cars with the later tube axle. The two are not interchangeable, the U-bolt geometry, axle pad and shock absorber drop link arrangement differ between the two axle types, so specifying by axle type rather than by chassis alone avoids mismatched parts. Spacers and U-Bolts The range is supported by alloy spacer blocks for owners building bespoke ride-height combinations, and by long-form U-bolts sized to retain proper thread engagement once the additional block thickness is in place between spring and axle. Standard-length U-bolts are insufficient when blocks are added, and using the correct long U-bolts is part of doing the job properly. Compromise and Use Any reduction in ride height reduces ground clearance and may affect approach and departure angles over speed humps and steep driveways. The compromise is part of the choice and should be made with the car's intended use in mind. Lowering also typically benefits from a damper review, tired lever arm dampers are usually working at the edge of their travel range with a lowered car, and a telescopic damper conversion is often specified at the same time. Fitment Q Parts lowering kits are produced for direct fitment to the original mounting points of the axle they are designed for, using the existing or supplied long U-bolts and the original spring location pins. No chassis modification is required. Each kit is developed in-house by the MGOC Spares product engineering team, manufactured to specifications that match or exceed original equipment, and supported by the brand's extended warranty programme. The MGOC Spares Q Parts Lowering Kit range encompasses lowering block kits for banjo and tube axle applications, alloy spacer blocks and long-form U-bolts for the classic MG range, supported by expert advice on combining lowering with telescopic damper conversions and parabolic springs from the wider Q Parts Suspension & Steering range. The Q Parts range is under active development by the MGOC Spares product engineering team, with new lines added regularly as the brand expands across the engine, cooling, fuelling, suspension, charging, weather equipment and interior categories. If a Q Parts component you need is not yet listed online, please contact our team at sales@mgocspares.co.uk or 01954 230928, we will be pleased to advise on equivalent parts available now and on forthcoming additions to the Q Parts range.
