The MGB 12-volt electrical system was positive earth up until 1967 in the classic cars, then changing to negative earth set up. Two 6-volt lead acid batteries were situated under the floor behind the seats. With the introduction of the rubber bumper classic cars, this was changed to a single 12-volt battery. The wiring harness was colour coded in PVC according to the Lucas colour code system, the main harness was then wrapped in braided cloth and wired for protection. Up until 1967 a Lucas C40/1 dynamo was fitted this then changed to an alternator as standard fitment. The starter motor was initially introduced into the classic cars to give them power, a “Bendix” type Lucas M418G, in 1967 this changed to a “pre-engaged” type and in 1972 changed again to a Lucas 2M100 “pre-engaged” starter motor. These were typically painted in the same colour as the engine (Red until 1971 then black there onwards). 7” sealed beam headlamps for lights were standard fitment until 1976 where they changed to H4 halogen bulb units. Reverse lamps became standard fitment in 1967 for the classic cars. We have a wide range of MGB electrical parts for these prestigious British cars including batteries, cables, lights, gauges, switches, vehicle horns and much more to keep them running in the present day.
