The hardtop uses a system of brackets at the sides to locate and secure it to the body. The side locating bracket fits between the bracket attached to the hardtop body and the tonneau rail socket on the car, and correct alignment is essential for a weather-tight seal. A hardtop transforms the open car into a weatherproof coupé for winter motoring, providing significantly better cabin insulation, reduced wind noise, and improved security compared to the soft top. The hardtop is the same component across the MGB and MGC Roadster, and all fittings are interchangeable between the two models.
Seals and Weather Protection
Seal kits for original factory hardtops provide all the rubber seals needed to maintain a watertight fit between the hardtop and the body. The header rail seal and side seals must be in good condition to prevent water leaks at the windscreen rail and along the seal line. These deteriorate with age and should be renewed whenever the hardtop is refitted after a period of storage, or if water ingress is evident around the seal line.
Mounting Hardware and Storage
All mounting brackets, fixings, and associated hardware are available for fitting and removing the hardtop. A hardtop storage cover protects the painted and trimmed surfaces while the hardtop is off the car during the warmer months, guarding against dust, scuffs, and accidental knocks in the garage or store.
