The MGB GT V8 uses 4 wheel nuts per wheel, securing the alloy wheel to the hub studs. Standard wheel nuts are conical-seated (the contact face between the nut and the wheel is a tapered cone), with the nut centring on the cone face as it is tightened. Locking wheel nuts are an option for security, with one of the four nuts replaced by a locking nut requiring a special key for removal. Wheel nut torque should be set to the manufacturer's specification, over-torque distorts the wheel; under-torque allows the wheel to work loose in service.
Centre Caps and Hub Caps
The factory V8 alloy wheels have a centre cap covering the wheel hub area. Original centre caps are V8-specific items with appropriate styling.
Replacement centre caps are available in original styles where the original items have been lost or damaged.
Wheel Brace and Jack
The original toolkit included a wheel brace appropriate to the V8 wheel nut size and a screw jack for raising the car at the chassis jacking points. Toolkit items are reproduction-available where the original items have been lost. Modern equivalent tools, particularly bottle jacks and trolley jacks, provide easier wheel-changing in roadside or garage use.
Wheel Tools
Wheel tools include centre-cap removal tools, wheel-nut sockets in the correct hex size, and torque wrenches for setting wheel nut torque correctly. Anti-seize compound on the threads of the wheel studs prevents corrosion-related seizing of the wheel nuts and is good practice during wheel work.
MGOC Spares
MGOC Spares supplies wheel nuts, locking wheel nuts, centre caps, wheel braces, jacks and wheel-related tools for the MGB GT V8.
