MGB Repair Sections

Bodywork > Panels > Repair Sections

Repair sections allow targeted restoration of the most commonly corroded areas of the bodyshell without replacing an entire panel. For cars where the corrosion is localised, a rotted sill end, a perforated floor edge, a corroded lower wing section, or a weakened outrigger, a repair section provides the correct profile and gauge of steel to restore the affected area to its original strength and shape, retaining sound original metal where it remains good. The choice between repair sections and complete panel renewal depends on the extent of corrosion and the value of the surrounding sound metal, repair sections offering cost-effective spot repair, while complete panel renewal is appropriate where corrosion is widespread. Sills The sill area is the most frequently repaired zone. Inner step sill repair sections are available as four-foot panels for the most commonly corroded lower section. Outer sill end fillers, closing panels, castle rail repair sections, and outrigger repair panels are all available individually, addressing localised corrosion at the front and rear ends where it typically begins, where the structural inner sill is sound but the outer skin has corroded. Floors Floor pan edge repair sections cover the area where the floor meets the inner sill, a joint that traps moisture and is almost always the first point of corrosion on an otherwise sound car. Further floor repair sections cover the front edges of the front floor pans where water entry causes corrosion, and the rear floor junction with the rear wheelarch, available in various sizes to match the affected area. Wings & Wheelarches Front wing lower repair sections allow the corroded rear lower section of the wing to be replaced without fitting a complete new wing, a practical and economical approach where the upper wing is sound. Rear wing end plinth repair sections cover the area beneath the rear lamp aperture, another common corrosion point. Front and rear wheelarch lip repair sections address the corrosion that frequently develops at the wheelarch lip from the abrasive effects of road debris. Structural Sections & Welding A-post repair sections, B-post lower sections, and rear quarter repair panels are all available for more extensive structural work. When using repair sections, the quality of the welding and the treatment of the joint areas is critical. All mating surfaces should be cleaned back to bare metal, treated with a weld-through primer, and the finished joints sealed against moisture ingress. The structural integrity of a repair is only as good as the preparation and welding behind it.
