MGF & TF Mudflaps

Bodywork > Mudflaps

Mudflap kits are catalogued in four distinct variants, each supplied as a handed pair (two mudflaps per kit): MGF front, MGF rear, MG TF front, and MG TF rear. The MGF and MG TF variants are not interchangeable, the different wheel arch profiles and mudflap mounting arrangements between the two models require model-specific kits. The front and rear within each model are also distinct: front mudflaps sit behind the front wheels and protect the sill leading edges, while rear mudflaps sit behind the rear wheels and protect the rear wings and sill trailing edges. All four variants are finished in black and carry a discreet "MG" logo embossed into the mudflap face, a small branded touch that distinguishes these from generic universal-fit mudflaps. Mid-Engine Protection Rationale On the mid-engine MGF and MG TF, the rear mudflaps are particularly beneficial. The rear wheels sit close to the bodywork, and without protection, stones thrown up by the rear tyres at driving speed reach the rear quarter panels, the lower rear wing, and the underside of the rear bumper, all of which are paintwork-critical areas visible to anyone looking at the car. On cars driven in UK winter conditions (particularly on salted roads and gravel surfaces), this stone-throw damage accumulates rapidly, producing hundreds of small chips that eventually necessitate partial rear-end repaint. Fitting rear mudflaps prevents this damage. Front mudflaps serve a similar function for the sill leading edges and the front of the door skins. Fitment and Appearance The mudflap kits use the existing mudflap mounting points on the wheel arch liners and wing undersides, fitment is a straightforward bolt-on operation with the car raised, and no drilling into the bodywork is required. Once fitted, the mudflaps are visually subtle, they are small enough not to dominate the car's appearance, and the black finish blends with the wheel arch shadow from most viewing angles. Some enthusiasts prefer the cleaner look of the unflapped car, but for cars used daily or in adverse weather, the practical protection is usually valued more than the minor aesthetic compromise. The mudflaps can be removed without leaving visible fixing marks if the owner's preference changes.
