Seatbelt Mountings and Pre-Tensioner Floor Distinction
The Classic Mini seatbelt mounting arrangement evolved in 1997 with the introduction of pre-tensioner front seatbelts on the MPi cars. The 1997-on main floor includes additional seatbelt mounting reinforcements at the upper rear seatbelt positions to support the pre-tensioner mechanism.
Pre-1997 cars use the simpler factory-pressed seatbelt anchorages without the additional reinforcement. The Securon inertia reel and static belts in the MGOC range fit the pre-1997 mounting arrangement directly. Owners retrofitting later seatbelts to earlier cars can use the upper rear seatbelt mounting reinforcement panels (LH and RH) listed in the bodywork section to bring the earlier shell up to the later specification, this requires modification to the seat back, parcel shelf carpet and C-post covers if used on earlier models.
Webbing Colour Choice
Black is the original factory colour for almost all Classic Mini seatbelts and is the safest choice for cars being restored to factory specification or for owners who simply want the belts to fade into the cabin.
