The Classic Mini exhaust system comprises a cast iron exhaust manifold, downpipe, and a single-box or twin-box silencer arrangement depending on model and production date. Exhaust specifications changed across the major engine and fuel system transitions, and the most important distinction when ordering is whether your car is a carburettor, SPi or MPi model.
Exhaust Manifolds
Carburettor and SPi models use a cast iron exhaust manifold bolted directly to the cylinder head. The MPi engine from 1997 onwards uses a revised manifold arrangement incorporating a catalytic converter as part of the exhaust assembly.
For owners seeking improved performance, tubular exhaust manifolds are available as an upgrade from the standard cast iron item. As with any improvement to exhaust gas extraction, fitting a performance manifold will create a leaner combustion environment and richer carburettor needles may be required to compensate on carburettor models.
Replacement Exhaust Systems
The MGOC Spares exhaust range includes both standard mild steel replacement systems and stainless steel systems designed to provide extended service life. When ordering a complete system or individual sections, confirm your engine type (848cc, 998cc, 1098cc or 1275cc), fuel system type (carburettor, SPi or MPi) and whether the car is fitted with a catalytic converter, as these all affect component selection.
MGOC Spares Exhaust Range
The MGOC Spares Classic Mini exhaust range covers exhaust manifolds, downpipes, centre sections, rear silencers, complete exhaust systems in mild steel and stainless steel, exhaust fitting kits, gaskets, clamps and mounting rubbers for all Classic Mini variants.
